Noah Zipper

I'm a PhD candidate working on the CMS experiment. With over 5 years of experience in high-energy particle physics, I've specialized in analyzing big, complex datasets while developing and implementing hardware and software to improve the experiment.

Experience

Phd Candidate

University of Colorado Boulder

Studying lepton flavor anomalies and developing Level-1 Trigger upgrades at the CMS detector.

June 2019 - Present

Undergraduate Researcher

University of Michigan Ann Arbor

Validated FPGA signal performance circuits using VHDL for upgrades to ATLAS muon spectrometer. Performed thermal testing for detector cooling enclosures. Contributed to ATLAS analysis of associate top quark production of the Higgs Boson. Improved isolation scale factors to optimize photon identification in EM calorimeter.

October 2015 - December 2018

Summer Research Intern

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Analyzed X-Ray spectra of relativistic electron plasmas to study laser wakefield accelerators. Used MATLAB to build models for calculating photon temperatures. Received student travel grant to present at 2018 APS DPP conference in Portland, Oregon.

June 2018 - August 2018

High School Research Student

Columbia University

Studied elliptic flow in heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
